Sarajevans protest Israeli offensive

SARAJEVO, Jan 8 2009 - Several hundred Sarajevans protested Thursday against the
Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip, saying it reminded them of their own
suffering during Bosnia's 1992-1995 war.
"Srebrenica 1995 -- Gaza 2009" and "Palestine is another Bosnia," read some of
the banners carried by the protestors who gathered in front of the US embassy in
downtown Sarajevo.
The rally was organised by an association gathering survivors of the 1995
Srebrenica massacre of some 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men, the worst atrocity in
Europe since World War II.
"We went through a similar situation and we know that nothing can cure the
consequences," Kada Hotic of the Mothers of Srebrenica association told AFP.
"When one loses a child, there is no justice that can repair that," said Hotic
who is still searching for the remains of her son who went missing along with
her husband in Srebrenica.
"The killing of children, hunger and suffering should be stopped, and big powers
can do that with a single word.
"We do sympathise with the mothers in Gaza, but it does not help much," she
stressed.
