ICTY: FORMER FRENCH INTELLIGENCE CHIEF TO DEFEND MILOSEVIC

PARIS, September 18 - Former French intelligence service head Yves Bonnet announced on Saturday he is ready to testify in support of former Yugoslavian leader Milosevic before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).

The accusations against Milosevic of war crimes or genocide in Bosnia are totally wrong, he was not responsible for the military operations, Bonnet said.

"Milosevic had no political authority over the Serbs in Bosnia. Radovan Karadzic did not receive orders from Belgrade. Milosevic confessed to providing military resources for Bosnian Serbs, but he bears no responsibility for the carrying out of the military actions," Bonnet said.

Bonnet, who led the French intelligence service between 1982 and 1985, is included in a list of 23 witnesses for Milosevic's defence, and said he could prove his claims.
