Lord
Owen to testify at Milosevic trial
B-92 Radio - October 11, 2003
THE HAGUE -- Saturday – Lord David Owen, the
former British diplomat and international mediator during the break-up of the
former Yugoslavia, will appear as a witness in the trial of Slobodan Milosevic
on November 3 and 4, it was confirmed at the UN tribunal in The Hague today.
Lord Owen’s attendance at the trial was requested on September 3, but as B92
unofficially learns, the former diplomat had asked that he appear not as a
witness for the prosecution but as a court witness.
The Trial Chamber has asked that Owen submit a written summary of his mandate in
the former Yugoslavia, his meetings with the former Yugoslav president and other
leaders and his impressions of Milosevic’s relationship with Serb leaders in
Bosnia and Croatia.
Owen was co-author of the failed Vance-Owen peace plan.
