B92:
Parliamentary elections 28th December
B-92 Radio - November 6, 2003
BELGRADE -- Thursday – The Serbian government
looks set to call early parliamentary elections for December 28, B92 learns
today.
A number of senior sources in the governing coalition have told B92 that two
options are being discussed. The most likely outcome is that elections will be
called next week before the media blackout for presidential elections on
November 16.
Alternatively, a decision will be made after the presidential ballot, in which
case elections would fall in the first week of January.
The sources claim that the decision rests more on Dragoljub Micunovic’s election
prospects than on the no-confidence debate currently underway in the Serbian
parliament. Micunovic, the governing coalition’s presidential candidate, must
convince at least 50 per cent of the electorate to vote in order for the result
to stand.
