Kostunica to quit as president in March
Beta - February 21, 2003

BELGRADE -- Friday – Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica this morning told Vecernje novosti that he will step down from his post at the beginning of March.

"It’ll be sometime at the beginning of March, 30 days after the adoption of the Constitutional Charter”, said Kostunica.

“It will be a ceremonious occasion. It marks the birth of a new era”, said Kostunica.

He assessed that "the legal framework of the new state is not good enough - not firm enough". Asked for his opinion on his potential successor Svetozar Marovic, Kostunica said "if you have good institutions and laws, then it's less important what the people who lead them are like".
