BELGRADE -- Thursday – The commander of the disbanded Special Operations Unit of the Serbian police denied today that he had been involved in the abduction and murder of former Serbian president Ivan Stambolic.

Dusko Maricic told Belgrade’s organised crime court that he had told an investigating judge that he was involved in the abduction under duress.

He said he had signed the confession after police threatened that he would be extradited to The Hague and his family relocated to Croatia.
