Belgrade demands explanation for Ceku release
Beta - March 1, 2004
BELGRADE -- Monday – Serbia-Montenegro has
demanded an official explanation from Hungary of the release of Kosovo
Protection Corps commander Agim Ceku from custody in Budapest.
Foreign Ministry officials emphasised to Hungary’s ambassador to Belgrade,
Jozsef Pandur, that the Serbia-Montenegro embassy in Budapest had not been
informed of the arrest.
A statement from the Foreign Ministry today said that the Hungarian ambassador
had been informed that Ceku is a citizen of Serbia-Montenegro and that there
were no grounds for his release.
“Hungarian bodies are expected to act in accordance with the usual international
practice in the future when acting on Interpol warrants and the extradition of
suspects,” said the ministry.
