UNMIK REFUTES ENVOY'S STATEMENT ON
KOSOVO BEING PROVINCE OF SERBIA
Beta - May 9, 2003
Belgrade, 9 May: UNMIK UN Interim Administration Mission in
Kosovo chief Michael Steiner has made
it clear that, according to Resolution 1244,
Kosovo is not a province of Serbia, Beta has been told today by UNMIK
spokeswoman Isabelle Karlovic.
"Yesterday the Serbia-Montenegro ambassador in his address in Vienna to the OSCE
Permanent Council said that, according to Resolution 1244,
Kosovo was still a province of
Serbia," Karlovic said. "UN secretary general's special envoy for Kosovo Michael
Steiner said that Resolution 1244 leaves the issue of its status open. The
special envoy clearly said that, according to Resolution 1244, Kosovo is not a
province of Serbia," the UNMIK spokeswoman said.
Steiner, Serbia-Montenegro Ambassador Branislav Milinkovic and the diplomatic
representatives of country members of the council yesterday addressed the OSCE
Permanent Council on the situation in Kosovo.
