Beta - October 28, 2003

CUPRIJA -- Monday – The Socialist Party of Serbia and Party of Serbian Unity have come top in local elections in Cuprija.

Each won eight seats in the local assembly, ahead of the Democratic Party which won five. Just over 40 percent of the electorate took part in the elections, called after the introduction of temporary measures in June to overcome a political impasse.

The Socialist Party of Serbia, led by former Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic, and the Party of Serbian Unity, previously led by slain underworld boss Zeljko “Arkan” Raznatovic, will enter a run-off for town mayor.
