BOSNIA: IZETBEGOVIC' S DEATH CONFIRMED BY HIS MEDICAL TEAM

Announcer: Alija Izetbegovic, former chairman of the Bosnia-Hercegovina Presidency and honorary chairman of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA, main Muslim party), has died in Sarajevo at the age of 78.

The head of the medical team at the Clinical Centre of Sarajevo University, Amila Arslanagic, said the following:

Arslanagic: The medical team is announcing that as a long-running heart condition, caused by an earlier heart attack and made worse by multiple rib fracture accompanied by complications, led to terminal heart failure and cessation of Mr Alija Izetbegovic's heart activity on 19 October (Sunday) 2003 at around 1425 (1225 gmt).
