Albanian MP assaults colleague in parliament
BKTV Transcript - May 8, 2003
Excerpt from report by Belgrade-based private BKTV on 8 May
Presenter: Several-month old political squabbles between
Kosovo President Ibrahim Rugova and
Democratic Party of Kosovo leader
Hashim Thaci culminated in the Kosovo
Assembly today. Our correspondent Bojan Bozovic is there. Bojan, we have also
heard that a fight has erupted there, too?
Reporter: That is exactly so, Stanko.
Today's parliamentary session began after one hour long delay and a fight
occurred in the parliamentary hall between two deputies.
Fadil Geci from the Srbica branch of the Democratic League of Kosovo LDK , i.e.,
Rugova's party, physically assaulted a deputy from Hashim Thaci's Democratic
Party of Kosovo, Gami Koci.
An all-out fight erupted and the police intervened - more precisely the assembly
security. Both deputies received light bodily injuries.
Kosovo Assembly Speaker Nexhat Daci condemned this incident for BKTV and he said
that individual disagreements had to be solved in a democratic manner.
Dissatisfied that one of their deputies was attacked, Democratic Party of Kosovo
officials walked out of the parliamentary session during which, among other
things, the criminal bill and the bill on criminal procedure in Kosovo are being
discussed...
