Kosovo Albanian MP assaults colleague in parliament

Excerpt from report by Belgrade-based private BKTV on 8 May

Presenter: Several-month old political squabbles between Kosovo President Ibrahim Rugova and Democratic Party of Kosovo leader Hashim Thaci culminated in the Kosovo Assembly today. Our correspondent Bojan Bozovic is there. Bojan, we have also heard that a fight has erupted there, too?

Reporter: That is exactly so, Stanko.

Today's parliamentary session began after one hour long delay and a fight occurred in the parliamentary hall between two deputies.

Fadil Geci from the Srbica branch of the Democratic League of Kosovo LDK , i.e., Rugova's party, physically assaulted a deputy from Hashim Thaci's Democratic Party of Kosovo, Gami Koci.

An all-out fight erupted and the police intervened - more precisely the assembly security. Both deputies received light bodily injuries.

Kosovo Assembly Speaker Nexhat Daci condemned this incident for BKTV and he said that individual disagreements had to be solved in a democratic manner.

Dissatisfied that one of their deputies was attacked, Democratic Party of Kosovo officials walked out of the parliamentary session during which, among other things, the criminal bill and the bill on criminal procedure in Kosovo are being discussed...
