[Presenter] Tensions on the eve of the beginning of talks on the final status of
Kosovo-Metohija have influenced southern Serbia as well. Following the incident
in Veliki Trnovac, when a bomb was thrown at a multiethnic police checkpoint, a
previously-unknown organization called The Black Shadow issued a statement. It
did not assume responsibility for the attack, but said that the three southern
Serbian municipalities [Presevo, Bujanovac, Medvedja] had to form part of
Kosovo-Metohija. Some former members of the Liberation Army of Presevo,
Bujanovac and Medvedja [OVPBM] say manipulation is at work here.
Nevertheless, the Coordination Body for Southern Serbia has stated that
provocations like this one, and maybe some even more serious ones, can be
expected. The source of all these problems lies in Kosovo, Belgrade states.

[Reporter] The Black Shadow has stated that it forms part of a newly-established
Albanian National Army [Serbian: ANV]. Nevertheless, the web site which
published the statement was closed several hours after publishing it. [Passage

[Reporter] Although Serbian officials agree that attacks in southern Serbia have
mainly been caused by events in Kosovo- Metohija, sources from the ranks of the
former Liberation Army of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja say that manipulation
is at work here, and that tensions are being incited on the eve of a potential
vote of confidence in Presevo Mayor Riza Halimi.
The parties which are in power in southern Serbia say that such statements
should show that unrest could start in the area if citizens voted in favour of
Halimi's sacking. [Passage omitted]
