23:26 BELGRADE , Dec 28 (Tanjug) -
According to the data that has arrived so far in the Serbian election
commission, the Serbian Radical Party has won 26.06 pct of votes at the
parliamentary elections held on Sunday, said Sunday evening Serbian election
commission president Radoslav Bacovic.
"The Democratic Party of Serbia won 16.32 pct, the Democratic Party 13.04,
and G17 plus 9.99 pct of votes," Bacovic said at a news conference on the
basis of exit polls form 9.98 pct of voting stations.

Serbian Radical Party (SRS) won 27.7 pct or 1,070,000 votes at the
parliamentary elections on Sunday, which would mean 82 mandates in the
future parliament of Serbia, said Sunday evening the Center for Free
Elections and Democracy (CeSID).
The Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) came second with 18 pct or 695,000
votes (53 mandates), and the Democratic Party is third with 12.6 pct or
490,000 votes (37 mandates), it was said at the final news conference of
CeSID on the basis of 80 pct of exit polls.

23:05 BELGRADE, Dec 28 (B92) – On a sample of
the ninety per cent of votes so far counted in Serbia’s extraordinary
parliamentary election, the Serbian Radical Party retains its lead, with an
apparent 82 seats in the 250-seat parliament.
However the Socialist Party of Serbia has slipped slightly, from a predicted
22 seats down to 21. The extra seat seems set to go to the Serbian Renewal
Movement- New Serbia coalition which would give the two parties 23 seats.
The shift raises the possibility that a coalition government could be formed
by the Democratic Party of Serbia, the Democratic Party, G17 Plus and the
Renewal Movement-New Serbia coalition.

23:04 BELGRADE , Dec 28m (Tanjug) - The
Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) stated that around 22.30 the exist polls
from 850 polling stations (9.12 pct of electorate) showed that the Serbian
Radical Party was in the lead with 23.87 pct of votes won, and that DSS is
second with 20.19 pct.
According to the data stated by DSS vice-president Zoran Sami, the
Democratic Party won 12.42 pct, G17 plus 11.3 pct, the coalition Serbian
Renewal Movement - New Serbia 9.37 pct and the Socialist Party of Serbia
7.02 pct, while the other parties have not passed the threshold.

22:56 BELGRADE , Dec 28 (Tanjug) - The
party G17 plus by its success at the parliamentary elections is sharing the
third and fourth place with the Democratic Party with 450,000-500,000 votes
won, or around 12 pct, said Sunday evening G17 plus vice-president Predrag
Markovic.
"The Serbian Radical Party will have won over a million of votes, so that
along with the 250,000 votes of the Socialist Party of Serbia it will be
able to form a coalition with a total of 105 mandates in the Assembly of
Serbia," Markovic assessed at a news conference in the election headquarters
of G17 plus, Sunday evening around 21.00.

22:48 BELGARDE , Dec 28 (Tanjug) - The
Radicals will have in the Serbian Assembly 82 mandates, the Democratic Party
of Serbia 53, the Democratic Party 38, G17 plus 34, the Socialist Part of
Serbia 22 and the coalition Serbian Renewal Movement-New Serbia 21, said
Sunday evening DS election headquarters spokesman Milos Jeftic.
The assessment is based on 23.95 pct of exit polls, he specified.

Radicals retain lead in
latest figures
22:38 BELGRADE, Dec 28 (B92) – On the
basis of seventy per cent of votes now counted, the Serbian Radical Party
can expect to win 82 seats in the new parliament.
Vojislav Kostunica’s Democratic Party of Serbia looks set to win 53 seats,
with 37 going to the rival Democratic Party.
Newcomer G17 Plus is projected to win 34 seats, with 22 each going to the
Socialist Party of Serbia and a coalition of the Serbian Renewal Movement
and New Serbia.
No other parties or coalitions appear likely to pass the five per cent
threshold required for parliamentary representation.

22:28 BELGRADE , Dec 28 (Tanjug) - The
election headquaretrs of the Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO) stated on Sunday
evening that, according to the returns from 226 polling stations or 2.3 pct
of the total number, the largest number of votes was won by the Serbian
Radical Party - 28.1 pct, while the Democartic Party of Serbia came second
with 17.5 pct.
SPO election headquarters chief Vlajko Senic said that, accroding to that
data, the election threshold of five pct was also passed by the list SPO -
New Democracy with 10.4 pct, the Democratic Party with 10.2 pct, G17 plus
with 8.7 pct and the Socialist Party of Serbia with 7.3 pct.

22:09 BELGRADE , Dec 28 (Tanjug) -
According to data of the Center for Free Elections and Democracy (CeSID)
based on 54 pct of returns, the Serbian Radical Party won 27.5 pct or over a
million votes, the Democratic Party of Serbia won 17.4 (670,000), the
Democratic Party 12.7 (490,000), and they are followed by G17 plus with 11.4
pct (440,000), the Serbian Renewal Movement-New Serbia with 8.2 pct
(315.000) and the Socialist Party of serbia with 7.6 pct (295,000).
According to CeSID executive council member Zoran Lucic, of the remaining
election lists only Together for Tolerance, Canak-Kasa-Ljajic, was near the
5 pct threshold.

21:10 BELGRADE , Dec 28 (Tanjug) - In
Serbia Sunday evening at 20.00 were closed polling stations at the early
parliamentary elections.
The elections will be successful in any case, because for the parliamentray
elections there is no condition of a turnout of over 50 pct of voters.

21:07 BELGRADE , Dec 28 (Tanjug) - At the
parliamentary elections in Serbia by 19.00 have voted three million 650,000
citizens or 56.1 pct of the electorate, said Sunday evening member of the
executive council of the Center for Free Elections and Democarcy (CeSID)
Zoran Lucic.
According to Lucic, in Belgrade to the polls have gone 54.1 pct, in central
Serbia 56.3 pct, in Vojvodina 57.4 pct and in Kosovo and Metohija 57.9 pct
of voters.

20:53 KOSOVSA MITROVICA , Dec 28 (Tanjug)
- The only Serbian minister in the government of Kosovo and Metohija Goran
Bogdanovic told Tanjug on Sunday that at the parliamentary elections in
Serbia he expected the victory of the democratic forces, which, as he
assessed, would enable the further process of resolving the Kosovo-Metohija
crisis.
Coalition Povratak deputy Rada Trajkovic said she hoped that the people of
Kosovo-Metohija would give their support to the parties who would forestall
any attempt of scession of Kosovo and Metohija from Serbia.

Tadic supporters beat committee member
20:45 TUTIN , Dec 28 (FoNet) – In what appears
to be the only violent incident during today’s elections, a political worker
for the Together for Tolerance coalition was beaten in the Tutin polling
station at about 2.00 p.m.
The Sandzak Democratic Party told media that election committee member Adem
Ahmetovic was beaten by several campaign workers and supporters of the
Democratic Party – Boris Tadic ticket.

20:36 BELGRADE , Dec 28 (Tanjug) - Having
voted, Vojislav Kostunica, who leads the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS)
election list, on Sunday voiced expectation that the elections would give
Serbia a parliament which would express the will and interest of its people,
"which has not been the case so far."
"As a whole, I expect that the elections will contribute to the unblocking
of institutions, to the political stability in Serbia, strengthening of the
state union of Serbia and Montenegro, and speed up our European
integrations," Kostunica pointed out. "I am convinced that in all of this,
DSS will have a crucial influence both in the parliament and the government,
and in keeping with this influence, will overtake the responsibility for
further basic political changes and reforms in the country," Kostunica said.

20:35 NIS , Dec 28 (Tanjug) - Republic
Premier and vice president of the Democratic Party (DS), Zoran Zivkovic,
voiced expectation in Nis that the Sunday elections would be regular and
that a large number of people would go to the polls and vote.
The people should be aware that the power was in them and in their single
vote, which is more than just a stroke with a pencil, but rather a
definition of the future, Zivkovic told the press after having cast his
vote.

SUBOTICA-KASZA-STATEMENT
20:34 SUBOTICA , Dec 28 (Tanjug) - Leader
of the League of Vojvodina Hungarians (SVM) and one of those who head the
Together for Tolerance list, Jozsef Kasza, said on Sunday that regardless of
the results of the elections, the coalition would be a moral winner, since
it was the only one which "has focused minority, human and civil rights as
the priority."
"The centralistic parties in Belgrade have forgotten about them (rights),"
Kasza told Tanjug, adding that that meant that they had forgotten about one
third of the Serbian inhabitants.

20:33 BELGRADE , Dec 28 (Tanjug) - Having
voted, Miroljub Labus, who leads the G17 Plus election list, said on Sunday
that this was "the day for democracy," and voiced belief that democracy
would show that it was efficient and that it won.
"I am convinced that we will celebrate the New Year with a new government,
which will take account of the economy, of work, of pay, pensions, and that
we will have all institutions, the parliament, president of the state," he
said, adding that "with the New Year, we will get out of the crisis."

voted, Cedomir Cupic, who leads the Resistance list, on Sunday voiced
expectation that the elections "will give a responsible parliament, which
will return the dignity the legislative authority should have."
"If Serbia will be like this day is, then our prospects are good," Cupic
said, and voiced hope "that we shall soon get a government which will be a
serious one, with certain responsible, qualified and energetic people who
will begin resolving the problems as regards the establishment of the rule
of law, so that we finally get a prerequisite for setting up a democratic

20:31 BELGRADE , Dec 28 (Tanjug) - Having
voted, Borislav Pelevic, who heads the For People's Unity Coalition list and
who is the leader of the Party of Serbian Unity, said on Sunday that he
expected from the new government to resolve two issues which were crucial
for Serbia, i.e. the national issue - Kosovo-Metohija in Serbia or a further
disintegration of Serbia, and the people's better standard of living.
"In case we join the parliament with a significant number of MPs, we are
open for all coalitions which go towards a national and social-economic
option," Pelevic said.

20:31 NOVI SAD , Dec 28 (Tanjug) - Having
voted, Vojvodina parliament speaker and one of the leaders of the For
Tolerance Coalition, Nenad Canak, said on Sunday he would not candidate
himself for the republic premier in case the coalition crossed the threshold
to enter the Serbian parliament, as well as that he would not call early
province elections unless the coalition joined the parliamemt.
"I don't see why the republic elections would have anything to do with the
elections at other levels if the parliament was to function normally," Canak
said, and voiced expectation that after the early parliamentary elections,
"we will become part of an election cycle in which all will be given a
chance to show how they behave when in power, but also when in oposition."

20:30 BELGRADE , Dec 28 (Tanjug) - Boris
Tadic, who leads the Democratic Party (DS) election list, has said the
Sunday elections represented a political cross-roads for Serbia.
"The elections are some kind of a political cross-roads. If we are the only
party that received blows from all sides, let this be our democratic
sacrifice. Next time, our political competitors will have more problems with
us," Tadic said, after having voted at the polling station number 34 in the
Belgrade municipality of Stari Grad (Old City). He said the electuions were
important also because they were being held in a democratic atmosphere, and
not in "the atmosphere of destruction and agression" as had been the case in
2000.

20:30 BELGRADE , Dec 28 (Tanjug) - Having
voted on Sunday, Serbia-Montenegro (SCG) parliament speaker Dragoljub
Micunovic voiced belief that the people would know to chose between the
future and the past, and that reforms would be continued.
Micunovic also voiced belief that the programmes which were to be drafted
next year would give the people hope for a better life, "since we will have
a state which is set in order." "I believe that we will continue with the
democratisation course, which is evident in the whole of Europe, and that it

20:29 BELGRADE , Dec 28 (Tanjug) - Vice
president of the Serbian Radical Party (SRS) Tomislav Nikolic on Sunday
voiced belief that at the parliamentary elections, Serbia "will use the
opportunity and get an authority which all of its people want," and which
would differ from "the DOS one."
Having voted, Nikolic told the press that the elections were important,
because "today, it will be decided who will enter the parliament and whether
someone can rule by himself." The press wanted to know who the premier would
be if the Radicals won. "The premier will be defined by the Serbian Radical
Party. I assume that by rights and duty, this is my job," Nikolic said.

Nebojsa Covic, who heads the Democratic Alternative (DA) election list, said
on Sunday that these were "the first parliamentary elections in Serbia" and
that the previous ones "rather represented national plebiscites."
Covic said the Sunday elections were very important, since "they represent a
measuring out between the democratic and non-democratic option." "I am
waiting for the results with optimism, and I believe that, regardless of the
outcome, we will all do the job the people will elect us for, in a serious

20:27 BELGRADE , Dec 28 (Tanjug) - Having
voted on Sunday, Dusan Mihajlovic, who leads the Liberals of Serebia (LS)
election list, voiced expectation that the elections would bring a stable
political situation.
"I expect that the number 13 on the ballots will bring happiness to the
people of Serbia," Mihajlovic said, and voiced hope that next year, people
would live better and be happier. Asked who he would join in coalition with
if the Liberals crossed the threshold to enter the parliament, Mihajlovic

Having voted at the polling station number 10 in Obrenovac on Sunday, Vladan
Batic, who leads the Independent Serbia election list, said that since his
list was also under number 10, he was convinced Independent Serbia would get
10 percent of mandates, "which, for the beginning, is quite a good result
for creating an independent Serbia."
"Regardless of the fact that they (elections) are somewhat overhasty and are
being held at a wrong time, these are the elections which finally resemble
real democratic elections in a democratic atmosphere and with a bigger
offer," he said.

20:25 BELGRADE , Dec 28 (Tanjug) - Having
voted at the Belgrade local-district of Blagoje Parovic, Renewal Movement
(SPO) leader Vuk Draskovic on Sunday voiced expectation that the elections
"will clean up the Serbian political scene."
"We had a good and difficult election campaign, and I expect very good
results," Draskovic said. He also said that after the elections, he expected

those who head the SPO-New Serbia list, Velimir Ilic, said on Sunday he
expected that good representatives of the people will be chosen at the
elections.

after the elections," Ilic said. He voiced hope that better days were before

President of the Main Board of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) Ivica
Dacic, from the SPS-Slobodan Milosevic list, said on Sunday the elections
were very important not only for Serbia's future, but for determining "who
was right during the past ten or twelve years, when the people of Serbia
fought for freedom and equality on the territory of the former Yugoslavia."
Having voted, Dacic voiced expectation that after the elections, Serbia

of the election list Reformists - Socialdemocratic Party pf Vojvodina -
Serbia, Miodrag Isakov, assessed on Sunday, after he voted in Novi Sad, that
"in the past two days of election silence have evaporated false promises and
slogans."
He said that he expected that the elections would be successful, that the
citizens would opt for the forces of democracy, reforms, rule of law and a

of the list of the Labour party of Serbia Dragan Milovanovic said on Sunday
that he expected that that party would pass the threshold, enter parliament
and along with other democratic parties fight for a better and happier
country.
Milovanovic, after voting, told reporters that he expected that the
so-called large parties would have to take upon themselves the role that the
people gave them and agree on the formation of a government and added that
it was crucial that democracy won at these elections.

of the election list Economic force of Serbia and diaspora Branko Dragas
assessed that on Sunday the citizens of Serbia voted for the first time in

stated that after these parliamentary elections should be formed a
governmment of national salvation comprising the best people from the
country and the diaspora.

the list Yugoslav Left (JUL) Desimir Stanojevic assessed on Sunday, after
voting, that the next decade in Serbia would be marked by numerous
elections.
"JUL participated in these elections to check its strength, and every vote
gained is a success," he said and assessed that a success would be "even two
votes gained - or one more than mine because JUL has started from zero." "I
expect, normally, not to pass the threshold, at least at this moment I feel
like that, and the agreement is that we participate with the slogan - JUL

11:52 BELGRADE , Dec 28 (Tanjug) -
President of the Republic Electoral Commission (RIK) Radoislav Bacovic said
that by 10 a.m., 8.21 percent of voters in Serbia had cast their votes,
which is by some 20 percent more than in the same period of time at the
recent presidential elections.
Speaking at a first Sunday press conference which was held at 11 a.m.,
Bacovic said the turnout in Central Serbia was 7.53 percent, in Vojvodina
9.58, and in Belgrade 8.20 percent.

10:53 BELGRADE , Dec 28 (Tanjug) - About
250,000 voters, i.e. 3.9 percent of the registered people, voted at the
Serbian parliamentary elections by 9 a.m., said member of the Centre for
Free Elections and Democracy (CeSID) Zoran Lucic.
In Central Serbia, 3.3 percent of people voted by 9 a.m., in Vojvodina five
percent, in Kosovo-Metohija 3.6 percent, and in
Belgrade 3.9 percent, Lucic
said.

Vojvodina parliament speaker and one of the leaders of the For Tolerance
Coalition, Nenad Canak, voted at the Djordje Natosevic primary school in
Novi Sad at seven a.m. on Sunday.
Canak voted shortly after the polling station was opened.

SERBIA-ELECTIONS-OPENING
09:37 BELGRADE , Dec 28 (Tanjug) - Multi-party parliamentary elections were
opened in Serbia on Sunday morning, at seven o'clock.
Registered voters, i.e. 6,511,450 people can vote at 8,589 polling stations in
180 municipalities throughout Serbia, including 19 Kosovo-Metohija
municipalities with 247 polling stations.
