KOSOVO POWER COMPANY ANNOUNCES FRESH SERB
BLACKOUTS
BBC Monitoring International Reports - January 22, 2005
Text of report by Serbian independent news agency FoNet
Kosovska Mitrovica, 22 January: According to announcements by the Kosovo Energy
Corporation (KEK), another 200 Serb households in enclaves throughout Kosovo
will be disconnected from the electricity network this weekend.
FoNet has learned from the KEK that the policy of cutting off irregular payees
is backed by the international administration and that customers will be able to
resolve these humanitarian problems exclusively by signing a contract promising
to pay their bills regularly and pay retroactively for bills owed from previous
years.
KEK is not happy with UNMIK (UN Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo) chief
Soeren Jessen-Petersen's statement yesterday in which ambiguously said that
workers of the Elektrokosmet power company would be reading electricity metres
and receiving payments for bills for used electricity, because, as KEK says,
this is a parallel institution or corporation.
