KOSOVO OMBUDSMAN URGES KFOR TO REINSTATE CHECKPOINTS IN SERB VILLAGES

Belgrade, 10 February: Kosovo ombudsman Marek Antoni Nowicki has forwarded a letter to Kfor (NATO-led Kosovo Force) commander Holger Kammerhoff which expresses concern at the decision to remove Kfor checkpoints in Velika Hoca, Banjska and Slatina, the ombudsman's office reports.

The letter points out that the locals are mainly Serbs and that they feel insecure without the presence of Kfor, adding that there are no adequate telephone services and means of communication in these areas.

Should an emergency arise the locals would be unable to seek help from the relevant structures, the letter adds. (Passage omitted)
