KOSOVO SERB BODY URGES
UNMIK, OSCE, EU TO END PROPERTY THEFT SCHEME
BBC Monitoring International Reports - April 27, 2005
Text of report by Serbian independent news agency FoNet.
Belgrade, 27 April: The Coordination Centre [for Kosovo-Metohija, headed by
Nebojsa Covic] today appealed to UNMIK [UN Interim Administration Mission in
Kosovo], OSCE and the European Union to undertake measures urgently to halt the
latest activities stripping the Serb and non-Albanian population of their
property.
The latest practice in Kosovo-Metohija these days is that individual Albanians
file charges with the Kosovo courts against Serbs and non-Albanians over the
failure to establish property rights, with an explanation that their [the
owner's] current address is unknown, and then "interim representatives" are
appointed for the accused Serbs and other non-Albanians.
The Kosovo courts have either made public this scandalous process, through which
property is being robbed, or they have made it public in such a way that nobody
can see it, and it is done solely in the Albanian language. Also, as a rule,
ethnic Albanians are appointed as "interim representatives" of these Serbs and
non-Albanians.
This latest attack against displaced persons in Kosovo-Metohija and their
property is taking place with the full awareness, knowledge and toleration of
the international community's representatives, a statement from the Coordination
Centre said.
