Steiner indicates independence is a foregone conclusion

Suva Reka -- Wednesday – UNMIK’s German chief
Michael Steiner insisted yesterday that Kosovo would not go to the Serbs, but to
the people currently living in Kosovo, regardless of nationality or ethnicity.
During talks with ethnic Albanians in the Kosovo town of Suva Reka, Steiner was
heavily criticised for conducting his task in the province unsuccessfully and
inefficiently.
Rather than react to the attack, Steiner said that Kosovar control would be
Kosovo’s final status, and that this should be defined as soon as possible.
However, he insisted that a formal secession from Serbia would not be possible
until standards defined by UNMIK had been met.
