NINETY-YEAR-OLD KOSOVO SERB BEATEN UP, LEFT FOR DEAD BY ALBANIAN ASSAILANTS

Kosovska Vitina, 21 May: A ninety-year-old Serb, Slavko Stamenkovic, was found beaten up in his house in Kosovska Vitina in Kosovo, near the border with southern Serbia and Macedonia at around 1700 1500 gmt today, the information service of the Raska-Prizren diocese has said.

The attackers gagged his wife with a scarf and locked her in another room. They left the house believing that Slavko, who was beaten up, was dead, the service told Serb sources in Vitina.

Stamenkovic identified the attackers as being of Albanian nationality.

The old man as received , despite his serious injuries and bleeding, succeeded in reaching the nearby Serb Orthodox church and telling people about the attempted murder. He was immediately transferred to a hospital in Vranje. It is not known whether his injuries are life-threatening.
