REBEL ARMY SAID TO MOBILIZE AS KOSOVO-SERBIAN DIALOGUE APPROACHES
Glas javnosti - September 29, 2003

Belgrade: Col-Gen Branko Krga, chief of staff of the Army of Serbia-Montenegro (SCG), said in Nis on Saturday (27 September) that preparations for opening a dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina are a critical period for security in the region. The SCG chief of staff has good reason for his fear. According to Glas Javnosti's information, the Albanian National Army (ANA; AKSh in Albanian) has mobilized 30,000 Albanians. This massive mobilization has been carried out in Kosovo-Metohija and in northwestern Macedonia. Furthermore, they could easily raise another 20,000 servants of the Mafia. The Mafia, which is the chief financier of this terrorist organization, has set aside hundreds of millions of dollars for this purpose. A similar thing happened in the period leading up to and during the Rambouillet conference (in 1999), when the then OVK (Kosovo Liberation Army - UCK in Albanian) intensified its terrorist attacks. The aim was clear - to provoke a response from the army and the police.

Since the scenario has not changed and neither have the aims, it may well happen that Albanian terrorists will carry out a series of attacks in the next few days leading up to the opening of the talks. This may occur primarily in what was the Ground Safety Zone, with the main goal of provoking a response from members of the SCG Army and the police.
