LJUBLJANA, Slovenia - A senior official working for the United Nations refugee
agency in Kosovo has been detained on suspicion of sexually abusing children,
officials said on Friday.
The senior official, who has not been named, was arrested on Jan. 28 and was
being held for 30 days pending formal charges. A spokesman for judicial affairs
in Kosovo, Neeraj Singh, said a senior member of the agency in Pristina was
under investigation for "sexual and narcotic offenses involving minors."
An agency spokeswoman said the man was suspended from his job on Dec. 23 after
accusations were made against him. She said the official would not benefit from
diplomatic immunity, a privilege normally granted to UN employees.
