World - UN returns Serb bodies;

UN officials yesterday handed over to Serbian authorities the bodies of seven Serb civilians killed during the 1998-1999 war in Kosovo. The bodies, exhumed in Kosovo and brought in wooden coffins, were turned over at a checkpoint 25 miles north of the provincial capital, Pristina. Some 2,490 persons are still listed as missing since the war.

UNMIK HANDS OVER REMAINS OF SEVEN KOSOVO SERBS TO SERBIAN AUTHORITIES

Merdare, 8 December: UNMIK [UN Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo] has handed over the remains of seven bodies to representatives of the [Serbian] Coordination Centre for Kosovo-Metohija at Merdare administrative crossing between Serbia and Kosovo.

The remains of Aleksandar Scepanovic, Milovan Petrovic and Rados Pavlovic from Nis, Milutin Karic from Pec, Aleksandar Stanojevic, a physician from Nis, Milenko Savic from Livoc near Gnjilane and a Roma, Hilmi Cigani, from Orahovac were handed over.

All these persons were kidnapped in Kosovo from 1998 to 1999, and then murdered using firearms.

The handover in Merdare was attended by representatives of the Association of Abducted and Missing Serbs in Kosovo, as well as family members of six Serbs and one Roma person.

According to information from the Coordination Centre for Kosovo-Metohija, a total of 492 bodies of non-Albanians have been exhumed so far, of which 199 have been identified and 172 have been handed over to families.
