The Independent (London) - April 16, 2003

SERBIA-MONTENEGRO: Gunmen sprayed a car with bullets, killing the key prosecution witness in a high-profile trial of former rebels, UN police said yesterday. A woman in the car was also killed, and three other passengers were wounded, including a boy of four. One victim of the attack, outside the town of Pec, 50 miles west of Pristina, was Ilir Selimaj, 24, a prosecution witness in the trial of five former ethnic Albanian rebels of the now-disbanded Kosovo Liberation Army. They were found guilty last year of unlawful detention and aggravated assault causing bodily injury resulting in the death of four members of a rival rebel faction. Mr Selimaj's aunt was the second fatality. Her husband, son and 14-year-old daughter were injured.
