project" by Kosovo Albanian newspaper Koha Ditore on 24 January
Prishtina (Pristina), 23 January: At a meeting on Saturday (22 January), the
general council of the People's Movement of Kosova (Kosovo) (LPK) requested that
the project of an Albania-Kosova union, which was launched last year, be
reactivated. According to a press release issued by the LPK public information
office, the LPK council discussed the situation in Kosova after the last
election, as well as the developments in Macedonia and the region.
"The election in Kosova saw serious efforts by Serbia to take advantage and to
impose the Serbian plan for decentralization. Serbia and the Serb politicians in
Kosova openly reconfirmed that they oppose the political processes in Kosova,
and, as a consequence, the Serb community now has only the 10 seats in the
Kosova Assembly that were reserved for them," was one of the LPK conclusions
presented at the meeting by the movement's leader Emrush Xhemajli.
At the meeting it also said that the LPK would continue to refuse to cooperate
with the LDK (Democratic League of Kosovo) as long as Ibrahim Rugova remains its
chairman. According to the press release, the fact that the LPK has won only one
mandate in the Kosova Assembly, despite a slight increase in the votes, was not
considered a success by the party presidency.
Participants in the meeting decided unanimously to launch concrete action on
reactivating the Albania-Kosova union project. They authorized the only deputy
from this party in the Kosova Assembly to insist on including this proposal on
the agenda.
