POPULAR MOVEMENT OF KOSOVO PLEDGES TO STRIVE FOR UNION WITH ALBANIA
KosovaLive - September 24, 2004

Prishtina (Pristina), 23 September: The Popular Movement of Kosova (Kosovo) (LPK) launched its election campaign in Prishtina today with calls to citizens to vote for number 59 on the ballot paper and added that "those who give their votes to this party will empower themselves for building the state of Kosova".

Presenting his party's programme, (LPK chairman) Emrush Xhemajli said that the LPK was entering the election under the motto "Together towards Albania-Kosova union" and that his party would strive for a strong Kosova with a stable economy. He added that the PDK would strive to protect the country's integrity and sovereignty.

"The LPK is the only political party that has invited citizens to go forward together not only on election day but throughout the entire mandate," Xhemajli said.

According to him, if the LPK wins the election then, immediately after the constitution of the Kosova Assembly, it will put to the vote a resolution on the declaration of Kosova as an independent and sovereign state, a petition signed by 46,000 citizens on the Albania-Kosova union and the law on martyrs and war veterans.

The LPK leader said that the partnership with the international community would not diminish but, according to him, his party would never enter into a partnership of subservience, as the parties of the governing coalition let themselves get into.

"We are the only party that sees the political, economic and social development of the country in the natural direction of Kosova-Albania-EU-United States," Xhemajli said.

The LPK, according to him, will also be active in the war against corruption, organized crime and the recruitment of personnel by institutions according to party affiliation and family ties.
