BBC Monitoring International Reports - February 16, 2005

Text of report by A. Sisic: "Verification requested for Pogorelica indictment", published by Bosnian Serb newspaper Nezavisne novine on 15 February

Sarajevo: Yesterday the Office of the B-H (Bosnia-Hercegovina) Federation Chief Prosecutor requested that the B-H Federation Supreme Court verify the indictment against Bakir Alispahic, Enver Mujezinovic, Irfan Ljevakovic, Ejub Ikic and Edhem Veladzic, who are suspected of establishing a terrorist camp on Pogorelica hill, near Fojnica.

"The indictment was written and signed around 15 days ago, but it was kept in the office of Chief Prosecutor Zdravko Knezevic for reasons unknown to us. This morning it was finally forwarded to the B-H Federation Supreme Court for verification," an informant in the B-H Federation Supreme Court told Nezavisne novine.

Nezavisne novine has learned that the group is charged with terrorism and murder. One of the two Supreme Court preliminary proceedings judges, Tadija Bubalovic or Nidzara Zlotrg, has eight days to verify or reject the indictment. No one in the B-H Federation Prosecutor's Office or the Supreme Court wanted to comment on this information.

The investigation of this group was launched at the beginning of April 2002 by the then Supreme Court Investigative Judge Jasminka Putica. Putica resigned shortly after. In the meantime, international court expert Rohan Gunaratna deemed "Pogorelica" to be a terrorist camp.

On 15 February 1996, Ifor (International Force) elite units commanded by David Hunt, an American, raided Pogorelica. They suspected that the camp was used by Iranian instructors to train Bosnian nationals in terrorism. The police camp was subsequently closed down. The United States then requested the then B-H Presidency member Alija Izetbegovic to remove Bakir Alispahic from the post of B-H Federation police minister. This request was met.

Prior to the raid at Pogorelica, Enver Mujezinovic was head of the Sarajevo Sector of the AID (former Bosniak intelligence service), Irfan Ljevakovic was an assistant to the AID director, and Ejub Ikic and Edhem Veladzic were senior police officials in the Una-Sana Canton.
