FREE MILOSEVIC, CALLS DUMA
RIA Novisti - March 26, 2004

MOSCOW, MARCH 26. (RIA NOVOSTI). The State Duma is calling NATO countries' parliaments and the International Tribunal for former Yugoslavia to release Slobodan Milosevic from custody.

Russia's lower parliamentary house approved its appeal in a landslide vote of 234 against 27 no's, three abstaining.

The trial of Yugoslavia's former president started more than two years ago, and is unlikely soon to bring a just verdict. Meanwhile, the suspect, with a heart disease, has neither proper medical treatment nor adequate living conditions. Separation from his near and dear badly harasses him-Milosevic sees his closest relations on rare occasions. He cannot properly defend himself in the situation, says the appeal.

The State Duma calls the International Tribunal to bail Milosevic off, and NATO countries' parliamentarians to join the appeal.
