Moscow, 18 January: The Russian Foreign Ministry has confirmed that if Slobodan
Milosevic is to undergo medical treatment in Moscow, his return to The Hague is
guaranteed.
"Russia has submitted to the international tribunal for former Yugoslavia the
necessary set of documents, on the basis of which the tribunal must make a
decision about temporarily releasing Milosevic for a trip to Russia for medical
treatment," Foreign Ministry official spokesman Mikhail Kamynin told Russian
television [Russia Today] on Wednesday [18 January].
Moreover, Milosevic himself has provided guarantees to the tribunal that he
would return to The Hague immediately after the treatment, Kamynin added.
At the same time, the diplomat said, the fact that Moscow has submitted the
documents does not mean that the international tribunal for former Yugoslavia
will automatically decide to temporarily release Milosevic.
"The question will be decided by tribunal members in the near future," Kamynin
said.
