BBC Monitoring Europe (Political) - July 4, 2008 Friday

A Kosovo parliament employee has been arrested in Serbia for possession of drugs, Kosovo media report on 4 July.

According to a report posted on the private KohaVision TV website, Serbian police arrested in Nis three people - one Serb and two Albanians. One of them has been named as Naim Hamiti, the driver of a member of the Kosovo Assembly Presidency. The other is his brother, a lawyer. The police found half a kilo of heroin in their vehicle.

Public broadcaster RTK reported on its website that Kosovo Assembly Spokesperson Ismet Hajrullahu was not aware of the arrest, while Kosovo Police Service (KPS) spokesperson Veton Elshani confirmed the arrest, adding that the KPS had asked the UN mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) to approach Belgrade for details of the arrest of the two Kosovans in Serbia.

Both KohaVision TV and RTK cited Kosovo Speaker Krasnici as denying responsibility for employees of the Presidency members since they are not employed by the parliament's administration.
