BBC Monitoring International Reports - February 18, 2008, Monday

Text of report by Serbian public broadcaster RTS TV

[Presenter] The latest news, which has just arrived, is Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica's statement.

I appeal to citizens to stop all protests which lead to violence and unrests, because that is not the way to help either Serbia or the defence of Kosovo.

At the same time, I invite all citizens to the big and peaceful rally [titled] Kosovo is Serbia, which the state institutions and parliamentary parties will hold in Belgrade, outside the People's Assembly, at 1700 [1600 gmt] on 21 February. A protest walk will then be organized towards St Sava church, where, at 1900 [1800 gmt], the Serbian Orthodox Church will hold a prayer for Serbian people.

The agreement on this big and peaceful protest was reached at a meeting between [the following] parliamentary parties [on 17 February] - the DSS [Kostunica's Democratic Party of Serbia], the DS [Serbian President Tadic's Democratic Party] and the SRS [Serbian Radical Party, biggest opposition party].

We must defend Serbia and Kosovo in the best possible way, Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica stated.
