KOSOVO SERB LEADER: REMOVING BARRICADES MAKES KFOR RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY UNREST
BBC Monitoring International Reports - April 4, 2005
Text of report by Serbian independent news agency FoNet
Kosovska Mitrovica, 4 April: Prompted by the removal of barricades from the
bridge across the River Ibar, the chairman of the Serb National Council (SNV)
for Northern Kosovo, Milan Ivanovic, today told FoNet that Kfor (NATO-led Kosovo
Force) would have to take over responsibility in the event of possible unrest
and assaults by ethnic Albanians against Serbs in northern Kosovo.
French members of Kfor today started the fourth stage of removing barricades
from the bridge dividing Kosovska Mitrovica into Serb and Albanian parts.
This activity envisaged that instead of stationary checkpoints and barricades,
mixed Kfor patrols - made up of UN police and the Kosovo Police (Service) -
should patrol the bridge.
