BOSNIAN SERB PARTY SAYS ANTI-SERB ATTACKS ON RISE IN BRCKO

Brcko, 17 July: The local branch of the Serb Democratic Party (SDS) in Brcko has condemned an attack by a Wahhabi group on six Serbs in Bukvic settlement on Saturday, 15 July, in which a youth, Mihajlo Kisic, was brutally beaten up, and it requested that the police and prosecutor's office in Brcko District clearly qualify such attacks and severely punish the perpetrators.

"Given that Wahhabis took part in this attack, the SDS is worried that terrorist activities could arise in Brcko and it asks that the relevant institutions pre-empt this possibility with preventive measures," it says in an announcement.

The SDS stressed that this was yet another act of violence which showed that Brcko police were powerless, as they had not managed to solve any case of murder so far, including those of Suzana Simikic and Marijana Sokevic to name but a few.

The SDS further said that it was not surprised by the escalation of anti-Serb activities in the district after SDP [Social Democratic Party] delegates went unpunished for hate speech aimed against the Serbian Orthodox Church and all Serb deputies. [Passage omitted]
