Kosovo Polje, 4 November: The rebuilt house of Nebojsa Markovic in the Kosovo Polje settlement of Zeljeznicka kolonija was torched last night.

According to first indications, unknown persons threw a "Molotov cocktail" close to Markovic's house at about 1830 [1730 gmt] last night.

The house has been completely destroyed despite the efforts of the Kosovo Police Service's firefighting unit.

Thirty Serb houses in the Zeljeznicka kolonija in Kosovo Polje were destroyed in last year's March violence.

"By torching one of the rebuilt houses in the settlement, [ethnic] Albanian extremists have sent a clear signal that there will be no return for Serbs in Kosovo Polje," Miro Velickovic, one of the settlement's Serb representatives, said.

No displaced Serbs have returned to the reconstructed houses in the Zeljeznicka kolonija, where 2,000 Serbs lived prior to the March violence.
