Kosovska Mitrovica, 26 December: Branislav Antovic (34) and Bojan Maksimovic(24)
were wounded in attacks which took place in
the northern [Serb-populated] part of Kosovska Mitrovica last night.
The first attack took place at 0200 [0100 gmt] outside the former Branko
Radicevic primary school in John Kennedy Street. Branislav Antovic, a security
guard employed by the local water supply company, was hit by four bullets and
suffered stomach and chest injuries. He has been operated on at the hospital in
the northern part of the town where doctors say that his condition is stable.
Several minutes later, Bojan Maksimovic was attacked in the Mese Selimovica
Street. He was shot in the shin and, after operation, his life is not in danger.
The Kosovo Police Service tried to investigate the scene but they were prevented
by a group of Serbs who demanded an investigation conducted by the international
police.
According to witnesses, the attackers escaped to the southern,
Albanian-populated, part of Kosovska Mitrovica.
A protest will be held at 1200 in the northern part of the town and Serbs are
expected
to warn the international community, UNMIK [UN Interim Administration Mission in
Kosovo] and Kfor [NATO-led Kosovo Force] that Albanian terrorism is still alive
and well.
