Kosovo: Serbs protest Ahtisaari's Proposal
Stratfor - February 09, 2007 17:52 GMT

More than 10,000 Kosovo Serbs gathered Feb. 9 in Kosovska Mitrovica to protest U.N. special envoy Martti Ahtisaari's proposal for Kosovo's future status. This is the largest protest rally since 1999 and was organized by The Serbian National Council of Northern Kosovo, which also announced a protest rally in front of the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade on Feb. 27. The speakers at the Feb. 9 rally called on Belgrade to convene the parliament as soon as possible, and form a new negotiating team that will represent Serbia's interests, as well as those of Kosovo Serbs.
