KARADZIC IS HEALTHY, HE WAS ARRESTED ON 18 JULY - HIS LAWYER
BBC Monitoring International Reports - July 22, 2008 Tuesday

Text of report by Serbian private independent news agency FoNet

Belgrade, 22 July: Radovan Karadzic's lawyer Svetozar Vujacic said this morning that Karadzic had been arrested at 2130 [1930 gmt] on Friday [18 July], in a bus between New Belgrade and Batajnica [Belgrade suburb].

Vujacic said in a statement he gave outside the Special Court that Karadzic's arrest was unlawful, because he had to be brought before an investigation judge immediately after the arrest.

Vujacic said that Karadzic did not know who had arrested him nor where he had been, as he claims, "detained until today".

Karadzic is healthy, he has lost quite some weight, but he refuses food, Vujacic said.

According to him, Karadzic defended himself by keeping silent during the questioning.

Vujacic also said that Karadzic would remain inside the Special Court building until he is extradited to The Hague.

After he had given the statement, Vujacic left with Radovan Karadzic's brother Luka.

LAWYER ADAMANT SERBIAN AUTHORITIES WERE HIDING KARADZIC FOR THREE DAYS
BBC Monitoring International Reports - July 22, 2008 Tuesday

Text of report by Serbian pro-western Belgrade-based B-92 TV, on 22 July

[Presenter] Radovan Karadzic's lawyer Svetozar Vujacic has told B92 that information which [Action Plan for Hague cooperation] coordinators [Vladimir] Vukcevic and [Rasim] Ljajic told a news conference is true but added that only the time of the arrest is untrue. Lawyer Vujacic claimed that Radovan Karadzic had been arrested in a bus on Friday 18 July in the evening when he was travelling from New Belgrade to Batajnica [Belgrade suburb]. Lawyer Vujacic said that he would on Friday [23 July] file a complaint against investigative magistrate's ruling on fulfilling the requirements for [his client's] extradition so that he does not expect that Karadzic would be found in The Hague before the end of the next week.

[Vujacic, captioned as Radovan Karadzic's lawyer] Last night, Radovan Karadzic was merely taken to an investigative magistrate Dilparic, but he was actually arrested on 18 July, because they do not want to state where he was for three days and who arrested him. Radovan also does now know where he was for three days.

It is hundred per cent sure that he was arrested in Belgrade, in a [Belgrade Public Transport] bus number 83 operating on New Belgrade-Batajnica line. This is not controversial. What is controversial is where he was for three days, starting Friday [18 July] night and ending last night.

Only today I received a ruling on the fulfilment of conditions for his extradition to the Hague tribunal. I have a three-day deadline to file a complaint against this ruling and I will certainly do it, most probably on Friday [24 July]. [Change of tack]

I came here to Central Prison. [Change of tack]

I saw him just now. I visited him with his brother Luka Karadzic on hour ago. [Change of tack]

He is full of strength and optimism. [Change of tack]

I must say that investigative magistrate Dilparic was extremely, extremely correct towards us and I hope that he will be here, although these authorities are set in extraditing him this week, but I think that this cannot happen, no way.

Bosnian Serb people say Karadzic's arrest "shame and disgrace" for Serbs
BBC Monitoring Europe (Political) - July 22, 2008, Tuesday

Text of report by Bosnian Serb state RT RS Radio, on 22 July

[Report by Ivana Frank - recorded]

[Frank] Svetozar Vujacic, Radovan Karadzic's lawyer, confirmed that Karadzic stated during his hearing that his arrest had taken place on Friday, 18 July, and not last night.

[Vujacic] He was arrested illegally and he was kept for three days and he himself did not know where he was. In the course of the arrest, he was blindfolded and they took him away; he was in a room whose size was two by three [unspecified measurements, presumably metres] He said that they were nice to him, but he did not know where he was, and the judge was also astounded at that fact.
