SPY
CHIEF REITERATES MILITARY SECURITY INFILTRATED KOSOVO TERRORIST GROUPS
Tanjug - February 2, 2004
Belgrade, 2 February: Director of the Serbia-Montenegro (SCG) Military Security
Agency (VBA) Col Momir Stojanovic told Radio Free Europe Monday (2 February)
that the VBA has for the past year maintained a presence in Kosovo-Metohija,
through persons working for it within the leaderships of the separatist
movements and terrorist organizations.
Stojanovic explained that VBA is monitoring only the activities of terrorists
and extremists and their para-military organizing and illegal arms trade.
Their activities towards the Serb community in Kosovo-Metohija are also being
monitored, but no monitoring is being carried out on activities outside the VBA
sphere of interest, Stojanovic said.
Stojanovic noted that his statement is not unusual, as all services maintain a
presence in areas where they expect hostile activities.
Para-military organizing observed in the past in southern Serbia is closely
related to terrorist activities in Kosovo-Metohija, and the VBA is therefore
investigating the activities of such groups in southern Serbia and their ties
with other extremists in the region, Stojanovic said.
