State of
emergency has essentially not been lifted, SRS
Tanjug - April 23, 2003
16:44 BELGRADE , April 23 (Tanjug) - The
Serbian Radical Party (SRS) announced on Wednesday that the state of emergency
in Serbia "has essentially not been lifted," since the media torture against the
regime's political opponents continues, parliament sessions are still not
broadcast live, and police armed with automatic machine guns remain on guard
before major government facilities.
"It is increasingly becoming clear that the authorities believe that
dictatorship is the best solution for all their problems," SRS said demanding
that all measures from the order on introducing the state of emergency are
lifted.
The Serbian Radical Party (SRS) further accused
the authorities that they have no intention of uprooting organized crime in
Serbia, but that the whole story about combating organized crime is aimed at
removing the competition of mafia groups controlled by the regime."
SRS in a statement asked why now, when the state of emergency has been lifted no
one is asking where is Stanko Subotic Cane, why isn't he mentioned and has he
suddenly become a "respected citizen about whom no one dares to write or speak."
