DSS asks why people are kept in detention for weeks
Tanjug - April 24, 2003

20:33 BELGRADE , April 24 (Tanjug) - The Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) on Thursday invited Serbian authorities to respond "why detained persons are being kept in prison for weeks, in inhumane conditions, without a hearing, decision on imprisonment, right to an attorney or even without any evidence on crimes they could possibly be charged with."

The DSS supports the investigation against persons suspected of crimes and involvement in the assassination of premier Zoran Djindjic, the statement said and added that in order to mobilize the public and help investigative organs, the party would publicly "ask one question that urgently requires an answer every day."

DSS says former Yugoslav president's advisor is a political prisoner

The Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) asked Thursday the Serbian government to immediately release from detention Rade Bulatovic, security advisor to the former Yugoslav president Vojislav Kostunica, or immediately make public any charges against him.

Bulatovic has been remanded in custody for additional 30 days without any valid evidence, under the pretext of suspicion that he has ties with organized crime, the DSS said.
