SEVERAL DOZEN TERRORIST CAMPS EXIST IN KOSOVO
- SERBIAN TV
TV Pink - July 9, 2004
(Presenter) A map drawn up by NATO shows the existence of several dozen illegal
locations in Kosovo-Metohija where terrorist groups train. However, Kfor
(NATO-led Kosovo Force) is not doing anything about it for the time being.
Infotop's (Pink TV's regular news programme) correspondent Branislav Krstic, who
has seen the map, has a report from Kosovo.
(Krstic, voice over phone) In a statement given to Infotop, the commander of the
multinational Northeastern Kfor Division, French Gen Etienne La Fontaine, did
not confirm or deny the existence of illegal camps for training terrorists.
I do not wish to contest the validity of the document you have submitted to me
but I assure you that Kfor patrols in the field safeguard the security of all
Kosovo citizens, Gen La Fontaine said, persistently declining to specify whether
the camps existed or not.
A member of Kfor who wished to remain anonymous told this programme that the
movement of organized groups had been registered in some areas, which Kfor
patrols were avoiding for the time being.
Albanian terrorists have been encouraged by the inaction on the part of Kfor and
UNMIK (UN Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo) but the latter are not only
afraid of arresting them on the basis of photographs and video recordings dating
from (17-18) March wave of violence - they are also assuming a defensive role,
the chairman of the Serb National Council (SNV) for Northern Kosovo, Milan
Ivanovic, told Infotop. He noted that UNMIK built fortifications, surrounded
itself with concrete walls, and even relocated. He recalled that the SNV had
long been warning about the existence of camps for training terrorists
throughout the province.
