Vreme, #242, November 17, 2004
Yesterday several thousand Albanians gathered in the village of Blace near Skopje to mark the promotion of the memorial complex built in honor of 140 Albanians killed, as claimed by Albanian historians, "by the Slavo-partizans and the Slavo-macedonian Chetnicks" during the Second World War.
The monument was unveiled by Macedonia's Deputy Minister of Economy, Rakip Dochi.
The opened memorial centre is a large complex of monuments and at the opening ceremony thousands citizens gathered waving hundreds of flags of Albania. At the monument the names of the 140 Albanians were in-scripted and flower wreaths were laid by the visitors.
Among the present to mark the opening of the memorial complex were Albanian historians from Macedonia, Kosovo, and Albania, representatives from the "Bali Kombetar" movement from Macedonia and abroad an [Albanian nationalist] organization infamous for its acts during the Second World War. Among the present were also the vice-president of the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) Rafiz Aliti - alias Commander Masuesi, and Fazli Veliu [NLA founder, uncle of DUI leader Ali Ahmeti], as well as the Vice-President of the Macedonian Parliament Hisni Shaqiri.
During the opening ceremony of the memorial center in Blace, speeches were delivered in honor of the Albanians who lost their lives, and folklore dances were performed glorifying Albanian history.
It was also announced that in the upcoming days several discussion roundtables will take place in the Kumanovo region to mark the balist resistance movement in the period 1941-1944.
